Have you prepared for your recovery? Because there are many preparations you can make in advance of your surgery to help you prepare for your recovery… or help keep your sanity during your recovery process. Simple tasks can take on a whole new meaning when you’ve lost part of your mobility. And diving into too much too soon may prolong your recovery.
Here is a list of arrangements to make before your surgery to help you prepare for your recovery:
1. Prepare and Freeze Meals
You will appreciate having healthy meals at your fingertips. So whether you cook and freeze meals in advance or schedule meals from family and friends who have offered their help, plan out at least a few days of stress-free eating.
2. Plan Activities
Boredom is recovery’s worst enemy. Gather books, magazines, movies, games, quiet projects, whatever interests you and place them within arm’s reach. Take friends and family up on their offers of “anything I can do to help” and invite them over for company and support.
3. Set Up a Cleaning Schedule
Hire a housekeeper. Ask family and friends to help with dishes and laundry. Watching your living space fall apart around you is frustrating and overwhelming. Arrange to have help with housekeeping duties prior to your surgery.
4. Get Comfortable
Purchase some comfortable, loose clothing. Depending on the part of your body that is healing, shop accordingly. Button down shirts are easier to put on when your arm is immobile. Warm-up or flannel pants are more comfortable than khakis or jeans. Be sure to stock up on some recovery wear. And buy colors that make you happy!
Your loved ones want to support you. So, don’t be shy accepting help when it’s offered. It will help them feel useful and you heal faster.
