Whether it’s spring cleaning or starting a home maintenance project, we all need to pay attention to the way we work. Prevent an injury by following this advice from our expert guest blogger.
Know Your Limits
Know your limits! There is a weak link in every chain, with every lift and for every activity. Be cognizant of the potential to injure yourself before you perform any work.
When you lift, the weakest link is most likely your low back. Your strong arm and leg muscles may be able to handle the load but the force that is transmitted to your low back may lead to a severe low back injury.
There is simply no reason to attempt a maximum lift. Limit your lifting to an estimated 50% of your max capacity. Keep the load close to your body. Lift with your legs and never do a combined bending/twisting motion.
