When considering total knee replacement surgery it is important that you weigh your options. Our guest author, Dr. Paul T. Scheatzle, shares with us a few things to keep in mind when considering total knee replacement surgery.
Motion Is The Lotion
Total knee replacement surgery is all about function, mobility and quality of life. It is performed when degenerative (arthritic) changes in your knee effect your moving through life to such a degree that you are willing to undergo a major operation. Knee replacement surgeries are intended to treat the patient. Impaired function and mobility are much more important than x-ray findings.
Make no mistake though, total knee replacements hurt, and you will be in for several weeks of hard work. Know also that your Doctor will partner with you to help manage your pain during this period. The therapists, doctors and nurses will push you to get moving soon after the surgery is completed. Total Knee Replacements are not for the faint of heart, but they are worth it.
